Music History

I took my first piano lesson before the age of four.  I know that was early, but my older brother had started taking lessons, and I was not to be outdone.!  So, after much begging, my grandmother took mercy on my and decided to fund the lessons.  I continued those lessons through college and, at one point, considered majoring in piano performance.  But along the way, I also learned to play my sister’s violin, the clarinet in band at school, and any stringed instrument I could get my hands on.  Now, you understand, I never took lessons in the stringed instruments, but one of the advantages of learning g piano is that you can read music.  And music for piano can easily be adapted for any other instrument.  These days, most of my music consists of listening, although there still sits a piano, two guitars, a piccolo, a Native American flute, and a Russian accordion in my Library.

Let me not forget to include that as I grew up, my mother was an opera singer, and music was also her life.  We did not even have  television.  Didn’t want one or need one, because we were too busy reading books, and making music.  My father played the trombone, and my mother continued to sing and play the piano most of her lie and I miss her beautiful voice.

In addition, as a funny aside, my grandmother played ”boogie woogies” on the the piano both at her mother’s boarding house, long ago, and at the silent movies for her employment.  If you don’t know what a ”boogie boogie” is, it would be worth your time to look it up.  THey are a riot.

If I can find one she played, I will include it here.

Found it. :)  ENJOY> THIS  IS FOR FUN!!!!    This is what I listened to instead of television when I was a child.

So I didn’t stand a chance.  Music was in my blood and still is.

But they don’t compete with modern sound systems.  The piano has been connected to the sound system, and one of the guitars, but the rest are still ”unplugged”.

I will put videos in this blog of music I like, just because I like them.  If I go to the trouble of putting them in this site, then the chances are good that the song means something to me, and/or the words are words that I wish I had written, because they say what I would have said.  Someone else just did a better job, and for that I am thankful.

I was checking my pages, and discovered this note. Wanted to add that those were such fun times, at my grandmother’s house. Wish I had had the courage then that I have now.
